Fall Fashion Inspiration

Wow. After a long hiatus I'm back to post a few recent inspirations. With the onset of autumn, those of us on the east coast of the US are facing cooler weather and shifting colors galore. When I think of fall quite a few things come to mind. I look forward to the changing colors of the leaves, the feeling of crisp air in the mornings, pumpkin anything, and being able to wear layers. I'm a total layer girl. Scarves, coats, vests, whisper tees, anything that I can wear in layered form, I'm a fan. There is something so expressive about being able to combine colors, textures, and styles in one ensemble. Of course there are those days, however, when you don't need too much to express your style. I guess, that's how I've been feeling these days. Pretty edited, if you ask me. I put together a styleboard of what I've been aching to wear. I've been leaning towards the neutrals for some time and I'm predicting that greys and neutrals will be in full swing this season (atleast I hope so!) I know the inner layer-fanatic will awaken in time for the peak of the fall season, but until then, I'm happily indulging in some transitional styles for the time being.

Jersey Wrap Dress, $315

I'm totally loving this wrap dress from ButterbyNadia. Its a long jersey dress that can be worn multiple ways. You can tell it would be pretty flattering to any body shape. (my three favs are up top--but there are bunch of other options) I know American Apparel has a similar concept with a scarf/top that I bought a few years back. But there is a bit more weight to this piece. Its also versatile enough that it can work as an evening out dress or something that can be worn casually for a walk in the park. I love customizable items~ Right now, it's out of my budget, but its definitely on my wish list. :)

First of all, I'm sorry I was gone for so long. I've been pursuing a few ventures as of late, so in the craziness of it all, sugarblush got a bit lost in the mix. Sorry! But I'm back and I've amassed a huge folder of things I want to share : ). I tend to collect a lot of things at a rapid rate, but organizing them and putting them together to share tends to be where the bottlenecking happens. With my long absence from this blog, i don't know where to start! My friend as well as the encouraging comment from my last post gave me the right bit of motivation to start sharing again. Thanks guys : )

Today I want to share something with you regarding one of my ventures that have kept me away for some time. I've decided to open an etsy shop to share and sell some of my jewelry creations. yay! Now, doing something like this was a bit daunting, cause I'll admit, at first I was pretty shy about it all. But I think it's always been something I've wanted to do and it's such a rewarding feeling to start it and see it coming together. The etsy community is so wonderful and inspiring~

2009 Philadelphia Flower Show

hello everyone. I got a chance to check out the 2009 Philadelphia Flower Show last week~! It was so great. Granted, it was my first show, so I don't have a reference to compare, but I had such an enjoyable time. It was such a beautiful show. It's amazing how creative you can be with something that is already such a creative masterpiece(Mother Nature). God is perfect, and it was so evident in the beauty of all I saw.

The artists that had exhibits were also amazing. I learned a few valuable lessons however when going to these shows. Bring a bottle of water, wear comfortable shoes, and make sure the camera battery is fully charged! My camera died halfway through...I was so mad at myself, cause some of the best stuff was towards the second half...but, I'll share some of the footage I do have with y'all.

A New Beginning

Happy (mid) New Year Everyone.

So, I got the keys to my own new little place yesterday and spent much of the day going up and down stairs. I'm not moving too far (about 45 min) from where I used to stay (a small room in suburbs) so i didn't feel too much pressure to pack everything all at once, although a part of me wishes I did. Now, a day later, I'm kinda already dreading filling up the van and spending a whole another day doing the unload/load thing for round 2. But I'll live.

The important thing is....I'M FREE!! Well, sorta. This move marks a huge new beginning for me on so many levels. Having lived at home for the past 4 years of my professional life, I've felt (and still do feel) a huge responsibility towards my parents; the need to be there for them on a physical, emotional, and financial level. I hope that none of that will change. I just need to have a place to call my own. A little privacy, if you will where the curfew questions, random entering, and such will cease to a much lessor degree. Please don't get me wrong, i love my parents dearly and i have no intention of really leaving them..but I actually do believe that some distance will help strengthen my bond with them. I remember when I used to live away at my previous job, i would write, call, send packages, and just show them regularly that they were on my mind. But when you're living at home....all that seems to naturally stop. Its almost like you take them for granted. I'm not proud to admit it, but that has been the case for me among other emotions that have weighed me down last year in 08. So, I'm praying and hoping for a fresh new year in a new place and a newly refreshed relationship with my family.

Here are some pics of my space. Welcome : ) I love the space and the light. The track lighting and the dimming lights are a nice plus too. As I'm decorating, I'll reveal a bit more. I thought I would paint, but the ceilings are rather high and I'm renting, so it will eventually have to painted back. Perhaps a lower half accent?

What I do know is, I've got lots of cleaning to do. The camera and distance, seems to hide the dust. I'm hoping to put up some inspirations and ideas to keep me focused on how I want the place to look. I get so carried away with waay too many directions. Please help me stay focused!

I'm pretty sure I want to do sheer curtains in white to keep the light. Something like this:

okay. so, I've been absolutely TERRIBLE about updating my blog. I have this bursts of inspiration and motivation that seems to just dissipate within a few hours. I must say...blogging is WORK. I didn't want it to be, but it started to become that..which is not a good thing. I've come to realize, that as much as you want to start a blog that expresses your personal passions and as much as you tell yourself you're doing this just for you, a part of you (or me, in this case) can't help but want it to be out there for others. I mean afterall, why wouldn't I just write in my little journal like I used to. But what happens in the journey to sharing your inspirations, you start to feel this pressure to make sure that your efforts are recognized, and if they don't...you (or me, in this case-again) starts to feel discouraged.

I've decided for 2009 to start this blog afresh with a conscious decision to really focus on allowing this blog to be an opportunity to be honest and excited to post entries without worrying about it hitting the masses or hoping it'll get noticed. I'll just let this little blog be my little piece of the cyberworld where i can carve out a space to just be me : ). I won't always capitalize my "I" because i feel pressured to, but I'll still make sure to spell properly.

Black Fan earrings: $75

So todays post is going to feature this great site, called Relish. They have a wide collection of pieces from pretty well known designers, such as Ferm, Marimekko, Amenity, and Larch. Granted...some (ok, most) of these products are a bit out of my current price range, but they are fun to look at and think about : ). I love the earrings they have on the site too. As I am currently looking to relocate, I've been trying to be extra selective about pieces I'd like to buy. When I see great sites with lots of really cool products, I go on wishlist overload.Sometimes, I wish I could just start all over and buy everything from scratch...and then there is another part of me that see how unrealistic and uneconomical that would be. I know a lot of the pieces I own can really work and I'm definitely inspired to be creative and have fun designing a new space to call home. I love this idea. Apparently its decoupaged with yarn labels. I'm not sure where it came from originally, but I saw it on another blog, craftapple while doing some research on dress forms. I believe she mentioned it came from a book called, Alterknits.
So pretty. I think it would look great using anything from receipts to candy wrappers, and of course strips of fabric.

Today I'd like to introduce you to my harp. I've named her Joy. She is a Lyon and Healy Troubadour Harp. I've wanted to play the harp for such a long time, and I finally found a great teacher. I've always wanted to play for my sister on her wedding day, and hopefully, I'll be good enough then! She's single still, so I have some time : )

Book Artistry

Darkroastedblend, a blog featuring "wierd and wonderful things" had a post of books that were given a second life as works of art. I was amazed at some of the pieces and the level of detail that must have been involved. The books that were created into landscapes, amazed me most of all. There is a Thai restaurant not far from my home where thy have these huge teak wooden carvings that show landscapes with multiple levels of depth all carved out of a single block of wood. At our house, we have an eclectic assortment of placemats that I'm sure must have started out as sets, but have had their share of wear and some of them had to be honorably discarded. Emergency Plant Care : )

Notcot had a post featuring these brand new planters by the Vitamin Store replete with their own IV. Now your plant can survive in any environment despite negligent owners. My parents were both born with green thumbs, but sadly their four children have yet to show potential in successfully nurturing plants with such aesthetic skill and patience. This invention gives us hope despite the slightly depressing thought of a plant on IV. They also feature other beautifully minimal plant containers and vases.

I found this great jewelry designer, Peggy Li. According to her bio she started off as a chemical engineer major before finding her calling to design jewelry. Its so inspiring to read about how designers and artists and crafters never planned on being such. I'm noticing that with so many of the artists and bloggers I respect. Its a good reminder that our lives and our futures can't ever be predicted. It should be freeing often to know that some things are out of ones control but it's scary at the same time. I'm at a place like this currently, where I can't help but wonder..is now the time. For what, I'm not sure, but an ominous feeling is there. :P

well, anyways, I found some great jewelry on her site that really inspired me. I like the creativity as well as the organic feel of her jewelry. I totally heart her Weather the Storm necklace(pictured above). and the Angel Halo necklace is precious too <3.

Our Own Pond (with fish!)

So this post is going to feature the progress of a pond that I made for my dad for his 60th birthday. I'm big on the home projects and renovations, but I haven't posted any before, so I guess I should start. I know I posted a pick of my room a while back and have since completed the redo, but I just haven't posted a finished pic. Yeah, I'm just slow like that. :T But the pond pics, I can share. Here's the skinny on the step by step.

1. Location. I decided the front of our house would be a good spot where many people can appreciate the sounds and the view. It works out that it's right under my parents bedroom, so they can hear the relaxing sounds too. Its ideal to pick a place where the pond will be constantly seen or heard. Its a lot of work to make one, so it'll be that much sweeter when you can appreciate it often.

2. Clearing. Oy. Such a difficult stage. Digging up roots is not an easy task. My props to the bushes for being so stubborn--but not as stubborn as I can be! I hoped to move the azealeas to a different location around the backyard, but to be honest, I don't have as much experience with that sorta thing, so I used common sense for the most part and did my best to make sure they were safely relocated.

3. Digging. I've read that ponds should be atleast 3 feet deep. And let me tell you, that doesn't sound like a lot, but when you're digging a hole that is supposed to be completely level, 3 three feet is a LOT of depth. Perhaps if the pond was going to be larger, it's wouldn't seem that way as much. I'm not sure. I won't be building another pond soon enough to find out. : )

4. Waterfall. So, a waterfall or adding any moving water is recommended when building a pond because stagnant water= mosquitoes. yuck. So, the waterfall was added to keep the water moving. Fortunately we got a system that also combined the waterfall with a filter which saved us cost and added convenience. Even better, there was still this giant root mess under the area where we put the waterfall weir, so the roots actually helped us with the elevation we needed : ) Phew. When life hands you lemons....

Anyways, I digress....so onto step #5

5. Underlayment & Liner. Secretly harder than it looks and seems. The liner is thick (which is good) but hard to work with. Still, it was exciting cause the pond will be finished soon! Yay!

6. Rocks and Water. Placing the rocks takes a little time too. It took quite a bit of trial and error as well as a few crushed finger moments. Be careful not to create a "necklace effect" by simply putting a ring of rocks around the edge.

7. Fishes! (yes, i know that is not really a word ). Wait about a week before adding some fish to ensure that the water in the pond has had some time to settle and create a better environment for any inhabitants like fish and such. Adding some greens and lily pads are part of my future plan. I've read it's a good ideal to keep about 60% of the surface area in the pond covered to keep the algae from taking over.

**So, most of the pond is put together, now it just needs a bit more "grooming" and like I mentioned, definitely some green plants for some color and protection. The fish seem to be doing great and the waterfall is running smoothly. Many thanks to my bf for helping with the digging and all the encouragement and support. xo. I'll have to put aside a few more days to work on the area outside the pond and I'll be back to share some more!**

Modern Lamps

A few great modern lamps I found over at ylighting to brighten your day : )

1. Bourgie Table Lamp (Kartell), $362 . I like the silvery finish one, but the black and white ones are pretty hot too.

2. Fun 1 DM Pendant (VerPan), $1460. Would look great in Dining room...awesome infact.

3. Cicatrices De Luxe 3 Pendant Light (Stark), $3575. Love this lamp. I see this as a fun yet distinctive peice.

4. Taraxacum '88 S Pendant Light(FLOS), $6230 (but its on "sale") I love this lamp too, but the price tag is hefty for it...unless you're comparing it to......the next lamp on the list.

5. Idle Max Lamp (DAB), $11,000+(on sale for $7K). Yikes. I sense the lights getting dimmer in my head :P. A beautiful sculptural piece nonetheless. I like.

6. Tripode Floor Lamp. (Santa&Cole), $1836. Unique and modern. Minimal yet exuding presence. It seems simple enough you could almost do a diy version, but I bet it's harder than it looks. The clean lines are very striking.

7. Marylin Suspension Light (AXO) $4300+ (on sale for $2300+). This is beautiful with the crystals catching light from around the space. S-w-o-o-n.

Betsey Johnson

Intentionally Random Frames

I love this wall of photos in black and white with the simple white frames. I'm thinking of doing this in the room I have to redo in the upcoming months. Casually arranging frames it secretly tougher than it seems. Its like you have to either be really spot on with the spacing or have to be really off for your wall to look intentionally random. Just a bit off...and it can look awkward...A fine line, I must say.

Knock Off: Mid-Century Style

So, I came across this sofa on Urban Outfitters website, and I really like it. I'm bookmarking it for my future home as a possible sofa style option. It's a total knock off of mid-century danish style, which I'm loving at the moment. I haven't found anything at IKEA like this as of late and I've been rather smitten with the clean lines and the shape. Thought I'd share : ) I like how the simple stlye can allow for wilder accent pieces like pillow and colorful throws.The review on the site says that over time it can get wobbly. Not so good. I guess that's the trade off with getting a nice looking piece that costs less than an original. Anyone know where you can find decently priced danish style furniture?

Living Room Lust

Living Rooms I'm loving..

The wallpaper looks great and, even though i'm not big on matchy matchy it doesn't feel overwhelmingly blue.

I love those birdcages set in such a minimal decor. The white open beam ceiling is great too. So peaceful.

I like how eclectic yet personal this style is. It feels natural, and warm yet still very distictive. Me loves.

Another eclectic success. The stripes with that pattern is unexpected yet it works.

Outfit Love

Thought I'd share an outfit combination I put together that I'm totally loving. I've been searching for the perfect houndstooth scarf. This one shown from wetseal is only $9.50! Not bad. I love how the purple (actually, any jewel tone for that matter) works so well with the pattern. Just pair the jeans and blazer with a simple white shirt and you should be good to go.

Danish Daze

I found this great danish chair on craigslist. AND it was only $25. AND I was the first response!....but the good news ends there. I couldn't get a big enough ride, so I surrendered my opportunity. Totally sucked. Kills my mood a bit, but I'll keep searching. I drive a little car, so coordinating rides to pick up chairs can be tough. My time will come. Any one know any great Danish sites to visit? I've been really enamored of the style as of late. I love the above pic shared by blogger, Sanctuary. I wish i was there right now, prepping a salad.

Totally loving the J Crew Fall Collection. I can't think of a single occasion I have coming up that I could wear this outfit to, so I'm probably going to have to make one up. It's only priced at ...$595. I'll just will the lottery, like my brother always says. :(. I'm not totally crazy about the shoes, only cause Im pretty particular about the heels (high and straight for me). But the Mary Jane peeptoes are pretty cute. I've realized that there are certain items that just speak to you. You can look at it and immediately know where it will go in your house down to the very angle. Then there are pieces that are questionable: you like them, but you can't figure out how you'll use it just yet. You'll probably end up buying it "to save for later". Then you have items that you wouldn't have even considered....until...you actually see it in a space. Placing an item or product in a real life setting makes such a huge difference. I'm a fan of simple product photography, but there is something so appealing about seeing a lamp or rug in a space participating in a friendly dialogue with other items around the room. Granted, the rooms are perfectly lit and have professional designers taking care of them..but still. I've found room spaces to excite me enough to buy items I wouldn't have considered. Hm...I'm not sure if that's good or not. : ) Today i found myself looking through CB2's Room views and finding some great spaces ~ I really want this curved modular bookcase after seeing it in a space. I love how it creates an separate area yet still doesn't close off the room or divide it harshly. I'm also digging the organic shape it creates which is balanced by the linear items in the room.

So....i decided on a paint color .

I went down to Lowe's and got myself a gallon of Gravity, from Valspar. Its a soft grey color which is a color I've never used before. I'm excited cause it's different yet neutral enough to be flexible with the decor. (Although to be perfectly honest...I originally was hoping for a bit more blue in the color, but the grey is still beautiful) I found this sweet lil' collection of other grey rooms which I hope will inspire me. I like the use of glass to create depth without too much busy-ness like this room. I've had my eye on these candle holders and these hourglasses from Cb2. I'm seriously considering.

Mixing 101 Classes? Anyone? Anyone?

Given all the web surfing and research and just observing (and absorbing) I do, i almost don't get why, when it comes down to decorating, I always feel like my design sense is all over the place. I wonder if as a designer, I'm more hesitant to admit it, because i think that people expect me to just have this natural ability to do anything visually related. So not true. Infact, I think it gets even harder, because we tend to notice everything and it conflicts with our original thoughts.
Mixing and combining styles and eras and colors and patterns is a whole new world. I'm finding inspiration in some of these images I found over at Apartment Therapy. Its nice to peek into some homes and see how people can express their personal style in so many different ways. The vintage and modern combo is one of my favorite. I'm totally feeling the warmth of this dining area. And those green chairs...swoon.

Wow, after viewing Anthony Auciello's Flickr Photostream, i totally want to travel...What marvelous photos. A-mazing. A bit "dark" in terms of mood, yet still so enthralling. I love his ability to crop his images, whether he does that in the viewfinder or post production. I'm not an expert with hdr shots, but i totally appreciate his talent. I want to go to Italy now!

I'm thinking about my room and I'm totally feeling this brocade pattern (pictured above) and even some of the runway patterns (like the Bodyform one) are pretty cool and fun to look at. I'm beginning to see just how much stuff is out there. I want to be this giant sponge..but when that happens..i just absorb so much and never actually get anything done. I can click through sites till my fingerprints wear off, and i get so excited to start so many projects. Then when it comes down to it, even after having purchased all the necessary things, I just become awash with this overwhelming feeling, like there is just too much to do. It's so discouraging, but fortunately, the excitement builds up again. It goes up, it comes down. I guess I just have to learn to go with the flow and be patient, especially with myself.

Room Redo

Its room redo time. I've been meaning to do this for some time now, but the opportunity never seemed to present itself. Then i realized, i need to go for it and just start it to really get it done, like the other projects I've actually been able to complete around the house. My room, for some reason, always seems to be the last room I really address when it comes to organizing or cleaning. I guess i'm a closeted slob, cause people seem to actually think I'm pretty organized.*blush*. So, I've decided to start cataloging my progress with my room. Starting with....the new color. I don't want to go too crazy...but at the same time, i'm considering an accent wall...and perhaps a decal or two. The room in the photo...is mine...in the buff. Just the honest state that is has been in for some time. I swear, i know where things are..but still...it's pretty embarrassing to see it. But i'm hoping this post will motivate me to start pulling myself together and showcasing the ideas i've been meaning to apply to this lil room of mine. I'll have to start a moodboard or something and post it up later. Right now, i have a website project i have to motivate myself to get started on. I'm planning to keep most of the furniture and just either paint it or repurpose it. Oh, and i have to get a bed frame. :P.

p.s. Random but, that relay last night for the US was so awesome. wasn't it?? Just had to get that out of my system : ) Go USA!

Hero of the week: Danny Seo

So, i just discovered this blog called Daily Danny, by green-living guru, Danny Seo. Wow, I just love his ideas and his eco-friendly lifestyle. I'm totally going to do the butterfly crayon craft-like now. I have so many crayons from when i was younger that i couldn't part with...the smell of crayola crayons bring back such carefree memories. I remember entering that contest to invent a new color name and promising myself that one day, I'd get to own that special edition plastic case with all the colors imaginable that folded out into a stand. Sigh. I wonder if they still make those.

So i came across artist and concept designer John Nouanesing while I was visiting Core77. Although most of his products don't seem to be in production (just yet), I was totally impressed with his creative concepts. While perusing his catalogue i found myself having a few, "I can't believe i didn't think of that!" moments.

I think as a creative, I'm always looking around for inspiration and ideas, and it's funny when you sometimes cross creative idea paths with others --makes me feel like i'm not totally crazy when i think a tilted soup bowl is such an awesome idea. I found a lot of his items needed no explanation at all, and that is why i like them so much. They are created with such intention, that it makes sense for them to exist.

I'm loving his Hello & Goodbye coat rack, these cool camo rings, and that awesome table concept. I'm not sure where it(the table) would fit in my decor if at all, and i think it might need some structural support somewhere but its still pretty cool. But that coat rack...wow, I'm so craving it for my hallway. Check out more about this designer here.

Eye <3 Lashes

So, as an Asian Woman, I have to admit....i'm sorely lacking in the lashes department. I'll admit to having taken an optimistic approach once and buying some false ones to try, but with a hooded lid..I'm already at strike two. I can't seem to get them to stay on without totally obstructing my vision. Don't get me wrong, I think asian eyes have a style all thier own..but just for fun i'd love to take a stab at some of this fabulousness I found at Shu Uemera . Even eye makeup alone is one of the most difficult things for me to do. Good makeup artists are a league of thier own. I love how artistic these photos look and how the lashes extend into the model. Magical.

Wow, i finally did it. I'm posting my first entry. Not sure if anyone will read this--ever. BUT-I feel proud of myself nonetheless. Frankly, I have no clue what I'm doing (yet), but i've been so fascinated with the blog world and i have such respect for so many bloggers out there, i figured this is just one step in the right direction...I hope to fill my pages with what seem to be the overflow of my daily exposure to all things wonderful, quirky, and delicious.
